California Annual Cannabis Consumption

Since 1971 the US Government has conducted surveys on drug use and the most recent version is titled the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) and included data for 2015 and 2016. The 2018 survey is currently being conducted and results should be available in the first or second quarter of 2019. The drug surveys look at the use of various drugs which include cannabis and the results are compiled in age categories such as 12 and older, 12 to 17 years old, 18 to 25 years old, 26 and over

Cannabis Consumption by Age Groups

Cannabis consumption for users 12 and over, 18 and over, and 21 and over is expressed in pounds of flower for the years 2015 to 2012 are displayed in the above table. Frequency of use is displayed in three categories, Annual Use, Monthly Use and First Time Use. Source of data is the National Survey on Drug Use and Health 2016, with future forecasts based on the 2015, 2016 rates of increase/decrease in cannabis use.

Monthly Cannabis Use Age 18 and Older - Top 12 States

The Monthly Cannabis Use chart was prepared from data in the 2015-2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health Data which separates use by different age groups which include 12 and over, 12 to 17 years old, 18 to 25 years old, 26 and over and 18 and over. Detailed population projections by one year increments were published by the State of California for the years 2010 through 2060 so calculations could be generated to determine users in the 21 and older age group. For this chart, only the 18 and
